Independence Day is a day acknowledged on the 4th of July. It’s considered a federal holiday in the United States. It’s a day that marks the historic date in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence that was largely written by Thomas Jefferson, who formerly announced the thirteen American Colonies separation from the Great Britain. While the vote for actual independence occurred on July 2nd, the 4th of July became the day to celebrate the birth of American independence.
There was only one President born on Independence Day, which was our 30th President, John Calvin Coolidge Jr. He was born in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. He was the President that stated “the business of America is business”. On the flip side their were three Founding Father Presidents that died on July 4th, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. People have known to question, was it just a coincidence? Good question.
Fireworks became a 4th of July tradition in the United States shortly after the Declaration of Independence was signed. The first organized display of fireworks occurred in Philadelphia in 1777 and is symbolized as national pride and the spirit of independence. This holiday is one that includes displaying the American flags, firework displays, fun filled gatherings with family and friends, barbecues as well as parades. In the United States, most states allow some or all types of consumer fireworks. Only Massachusetts completely bans the purchases and use of fireworks. California and Virginia allow only safe and sane, fireworks which are ground based, non exploding items such as sparkles, snaps and smoke balls. If they become illegal it’s usually due to numerous injuries and accidental fires.

- Only two men signed the Declaration of Independence but on August 2, 1776 the majority of the 56 delegates signed the document including John Hancock, the President of Congress, who signed 1st.
- There is something written on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
- One signed later recanted the Declaration of Independence.
- The average age of the signers was 45 years old.
