The immune system is a compiled network of organs, white blood cells, proteins and chemicals. They work together to defend the body against infections and protects us from germs. The immune system is always working hard to keep us healthy. It protects us from bacteria, viruses, infections, parasites and cancer cells. When your immune system is working properly, your body is running effortlessly. Your body is able to tell the difference between cells that are yours and the ones that don’t belong in the body. Your body is killing the germs that may harm you and ends the attack once the threat is gone. It also learns about the germs that you may have had contact with and develops the antibodies against them and sends out antibodies to destroy the germs that try to enter the body in the future. How amazing is that?
It’s very important that your immune system is working smoothly. Make sure to speak with your healthcare provider to get the tests that check the health of your immune system. There are specific blood tests that your healthcare provider may order which consist of antibody test, complete blood count and complement tests. When the immune system isn’t working efficiently, there are repercussions of disorders and diseases caused by the conditions that can interfere with the normal workings of the immune system. When that occurs, you end up with what is called an autoimmune disease and that’s when the body’s immune system attacks healthy cells.
