The mind processes rationally with logic while the heart is driven by feelings and intuition. Balancing both is essential for effective decision making. When the two are in conflict, the soul is at odds. Finding a balance between the two can be somewhat challenging in some cases. In our lives we encounter experiences that compel us to make that decision between mind and heart. For me, it depends on the situation. Sigmund Freud said “In the small matters trust the mind, in the large ones, the heart.” The real question is how you feel deep down in your soul. I believe that the mind can be easily deceived but the heart holds the true answer. Your heart is essentially monitored through your thoughts. What does that mean? If your thinking negative thoughts, your heart is going to be unemotional and over whelmed with fears but when you have positive thoughts your heart is filled with good feelings. I saw a quote that said “the mind replays what the heart can’t delete.” Very true! A lot of people live their lives with a painful heart due to past experiences but “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crush spirit” Psalms 34:18.
In the Bible, the word heart describes your entire person. Your heart knows things that your mind can’t explain. That’s also very true but in Proverbs 4:23 it says “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” If people have taken advantage of you, they don’t deserve your good heart. Only if they ask for forgiveness and prove their love. That’s why God says guard it because you don’t know what vamp wants to destroy it! You will be faced with situations that can make it difficult to know which to choose. And that’s when hopefully, you’re guided to learn how to discern. In Jeremiah 17:10 “I the LORD search the heart and test the mind.” But never forget in Philippians 4:7 it states “The peace of God will guard your hearts and your minds.” May the peace of God be with you!
