Memorial Day is a national holiday in the United States, observed on the last Monday of May that is dedicated to honoring and remembering those who have died, regardless of whether they were veterans or not, have died while serving in the United States military. It commemorates those who have made the ultimate sacrifices. You don’t wish folks a happy Memorial Day because it honors those that are not longer with us. The phrase “Lest we forget” that means “It should not be forgotten” or “We should not forget”. It’s commonly used in ceremonies and commemoration to remember the service and sacrifices of those wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations.

And on Memorial Day they sacrificed for their country.
