4 medium apples (Red delicious, Rome, Gala, Honeycrisp)
2 tablespoons butter (can substitute with margarine)
1/4 cup maple-flavored syrup (can substitute with sugar free)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Water (for baking dish)
1. Heat oven to 375 F. Pare 1-inch strip of skin from around the middle of each apple, or pare upper half of each to prevent splitting.
2. Place apples upright in ungreased square baking dish 9 x 9 x 2 inches.
3. Melt the butter and pour over apples along with the maple syrup. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples.
4. Add water 1/4 inch deep into baking pan. Bake 30-40 minutes or or until tender. Spoon syrup in dish over apples several times when baking.
*Garnish with nuts if desired
