Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine Day is a day celebrated every year on February 14 in the United States. It’s a day known for sweethearts to exchange gifts and their token of love for one another. The origins of this holiday stem from cult rituals celebrated by the Romans known as the celebration of Lupercalia, the sacrifices of goats and dogs. In 496 A.D., Pope Saint Gelasius supposedly denounced this holiday and the Roman Catholic Church removed Saint Valentine from the general Roman calendar in 1969. The change was made because of a lack of reliable info about the Saint. Christian historic have found that Valentine’s Day is one of the pagan holidays. However we continue to celebrate these traditional holidays. I suppose as long as we’re not doing anything that’s sacrilegious against God, what’s the harm of celebrating a day that honors love. Love is what it’s all about and it should be shown every day not only on Valentine’s Day. “My command is this: “Love each other as I have loved you” John 15:12.
There is no greater joy than to experience love. “And now these 3 remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest is love” 1 Corinthians 13:13. No further explanation required. Love is a sensitive subject to us all but I believe that it stems from your childhood. Read my article “Children Learn What They Live”. And even if your family or anyone else for that matter, doesn’t love you, God does and know that “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” 1 John 4:12.
